The Amsterdam Internet hub, AMS-IX, is expanding. This year, it opens a sixth data hub, and it's expected that the Amsterdam-based digital network will be further extended over the coming years.

Set up in the early 1990s, AMS-IX was the result of an initiative by a group of scientists who realised the potential of a fast and stable Internet hub for global knowledge exchange. Today, it has developed into the largest data transport hub in the world. Fibre optic-transported data is distributed realtime to an ever-increasing number of large and small networks, search engines, portals, webfarms and other Internet-related organisations. AMS-IX is already poised to take advantage of the expected exponential growth in the market, thanks to its investment in increased capacity and additional connection points.
